CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Waterproof Mascara
After the L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara failed miserably, I decided to try a good ol’ classic mascara from CoverGirl. I’ve used their LashExact Waterproof Mascara in the past and loved it, so I had high hopes for the CG LashBlast Volume Waterproof Mascara.
This mascara has a large rubber wand with short, plastic bristles. It’s a little too big for my preference but I can deal with it. The formulation is on the drier-side and it’s not as clump-free as the LashExact. But it is pretty long lasting and smudging is very minor or non-existent depending on the humidity. It definitely adds volume to my lashes without weighing it down. Overall, it’s a solid mascara for those with oily eyelids. I wish the wand was a little smaller and had natural bristles instead. But based on the formulation and the price, it’s pretty decent and I’d re-purchase this mascara after I run out.

L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara
The original version of this mascara used to be really popular among YouTubers. So when I saw a waterproof version of this mascara several months ago while I was at Target, I picked it up immediately. At first, I was really pleased with the fact that the formula is not too wet and the wand creates a very voluminizing, yet natural look without clumping. I was really happy with everything until I looked in the mirror 2 hours later. This mascara smudged a lot under both of my eyes! Since I have oily lids, I always apply powder under my eyes after applying mascara. This method usually allows my mascara to last for a good 6 hours before I see any smudging. But this mascara simply won’t stay put! It’s really frustrating because I’ve tried a bunch of tips that are supposed to prevent your mascara from smudging but none of them worked. For all you girls with oily lids out there, don’t try this mascara. (Please note that this review only applies to the WATERPROOF version of this mascara. I have not tried the original version so I can’t speak for it.)

I am a minimalist when it comes to makeup: I only wear eyeliner and concealer. That’s it! I focus on skincare and nutrition so that my real skin is in good shape and after sunscreen lotion, there’s not much left to do! I see all these skincare products and cleansers out there, but really, the less you cake on, the less you need to worry about cleaning it off at the end of the day (and all of it clogging pores and irritating your skin). And I like the idea that when people see me close up in real life, they see just my natural skin!
I have tried so many different types of eyeliners and even forayed into liquid eyeliners. I usually only wear eyeliner on my top lid and I like it to be a bit thick (ie, not just tightlining). In fact, I don’t like my liner to be anywhere except for my surface skin because it makes me nervous when I see people tightlining and getting into that sensitive region of their eyes.
I’ve found that pencil liners works best for me in terms of style because they create a less harsh line and look more natural. They are also easier to apply and can even give a smoky effect.
And my favorite eyeliner of all time is Rimmel’s Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer. First of all, I will say that the line is not like liquid liners’ because you can smudge it off without remover. However, it does not transfer to my lower lash line and does not irritate my eyes. Which is fantastic news for someone like me who is busy all day and does not like to have to fix my makeup. It is creamy and glides on so easily and lasts all day. The color is also buildable, so you can make it as light or dark as you want.
For everyday use, I use the black (noir) liner. It’s completely black and amazing.
I usually buy my Rimmel liners at Target, but today when I went to get a new one, there were no black eyeliners left! A true testament to their popularity indeed. Instead, I bought the brown liner to try out, so we shall see how that works. I wore my dark blue eyeliner my freshman year of college and I loved it. But now that I am older (over 20, not grandma status just yet!), I feel like I need to look a bit more professional on a daily basis. But I swatched the gold liner on my hand, and it’s gorgeous. I may go back soon to get it to try out.
